Czech Republic Multisport Tour

The Czech Republic is a fascinating place with a proud history and culture, lovely little medieval towns and a picturesque landscape. We visit three prominent UNESCO World Heritage sites--Prague, Cesky Krumlov and Kutna Hora—each boasting a rich cultural heritage and well-preserved architecture. We also get off-the-beaten path to some gems that have not yet been discovered by the tourist crowds. Days 1-3: Prague-Prachov Rocks-Jicin-Bohemian Paradise We're met at the airport and taken to the hotel for a free evening in Prague. Our guide meets us the following morning for the drive to the lovely town of Jicin. We hike through Prachov Rocks, an area of dramatic clusters of rocky outcroppings that form a labyrinth of pillars, crevices, ravines and tunnels. A bike ride through the Bohemian Paradise, an enchanting area that derives its name from its picturesque location in the foothills of the Giant Mountains, reveals many formidable castles and chateaus, a fabulously folded landscape, crystal clear brooks and massive rock formations. Days 4-5: Kutna Hora-Jindrichuv Hradec-Bohemian Canada We cycle today from Kutna Hora, founded in 1142 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, via a quiet road through woods and open fields and along the Sazava River to the town of Svetla nad Sazavou. We visit the famous Chapel of All Saints, the “Bone Chapel”, Gothic Stone House, Italian Court, St. James’s Church and, most importantly, St. Barbara, the country’s most spectacular cathedral. We then transfer to the historical town of Jindrichuv Hradec, a unique Gothic and Renaissance town situated above lovely Vajgar Lake. We transfer the next morning to Bohemian Canada, an enchanting landscape at the intersection of three historical countries--Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. We take a pleasant walk through the woods to the ruins of majestic Landstejn castle. After enjoying the view of the surrounding area from its high tower we continue through flower-filled meadows and coniferous forests to the town of Slavonice before transferring back to Jindrichuv Hradec. Days 6-7: Trebon Lake District-Cesky Krumlov-Vltava River We set out on a bike ride through the Trebon Lake District, a protected area that has a sophisticated system of over 300 man-made lakes that date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The entire area is comprised of marshlands, meadows, fields, woods, ponds and lakes and quaint farm houses. We also bike through the Trebonsko bird reserve—one of the best Czech locations for waterbirds. Upon arrival in Trebon, another picturesque South Bohemian town, we tour a local brewery, founded in 1379, and after a refreshing glass of beer, transfer to Cesky Krumlov. The following day we board a raft for a cruise down the gentle Vltava River, meandering beneath the Rozmberk Castle, before returning to Cesky Krumlov in time for an afternoon stroll through its quaint streets. Days 8-9: Prague-Departure Prague's architecture reflects 1,100 years of development in which all styles are represented. In the periods of gothic, renaissance, and baroque, Prague’s architecture represented the very best the continent had to offer. Thanks to the dozens of golden spires and domes of the city’s churches and cathedrals, Prague is often called “a city of hundred spires”. The historical center was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1992. We tour Prague Castle, the seat of Czech kings and quite possibly the most beautiful complex in the Czech Republic, cross the Charles Bridge on our way to St. Nicholas Church, see the Old Town Hall with an astronomical clock where 12 apostles appear each hour, stroll through the Jewish Quarter and admire numerous gardens. After breakfast on the final day we transfer to Prague airport by taxi to connect with flights home.
